Chilton County Local Time:
Community Emergency Response Team

Your chance of surviving a disaster depends on your ability to respond.

In 95% of all emergencies, bystanders or victims themselves are the first to provide emergency assistance or perform a rescue.

The CERT program helps train people to be better prepared to respond to an emergency or disaster in their community. Following a major disaster, first responders who provide fire and medical services will not be able to meet the demand for these services. People may have to rely on each other to meet their immediate life-saving or life-sustaining needs. CERT training educates people about disaster preparedness and trains them in basic disaster response skills. CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event and can take a more active role in preparing their community.

CERT training is delivered in 7 (2 and 1/2 hour) sessions. These sessions are:

  1. Disaster Preparedness
  2. Disaster Fire Suppression
  3. Disaster Medical Operations I
  4. Disaster Medical Operations II
  5. Light Search and Rescue Operations
  6. Disaster Psychology and Team Organization
  7. Course Review and Disaster Simulation

Currently Chilton County has over 100 CERT members. If you are interested in attending or hosting a class (minimum 12 students) in your community please E-mail us or call (205) 755-0900.
